Carrying out with the Jacobite theme – on route to St. Andrews there was a stop off to Midhope Castle, better known as Lallybroch! Anyone who is an Outlander fan will know that Lallybroch is the ancestoral home of Clan Fraser. Even though Lallybroch is fictional, there was an eerie feeling that came over you as you approached from the road – as if Jamie himself would appear!

St. Andrews is a picturesque wee town on the east coast of Fife – full of history with stunning old buildings – not to mention the beautiful beach! It’s always good to have a wander about the old town, with a cool selection of independent shops and cafes to choose from. St. Andrews was looking extra lovely as trees were decorated with fairy lights for Christmas.
Time to take in a few more Outlander locations on the road back to Glasgow. First stop, Anstruther with its historic old harbour and cute buildings. Next stop was Pittemweem – another old fishing village that Fife is famous for. If you go to the Cocoa Tree Shop in Pittemweem, pay a pound donation; you can borrow a key to visit St. Fillin’s cave chapel. The wee chapel is so peaceful and lovely to spend a few moments there – being in a cave only adds to the atmosphere.

When handing back the key – it’s a real must to have a hot chocolate in the Cocoa Tree Shop. It’s a quirky wee place, filled with counters of homemade amazing chocolates! However, they also have an interesting menu including homemade humous and tapenade, crepes and more! But the hot chocolate menu is wonderful! Staff are also amazing, you will receive a very warm welcome from Stella – a beautiful lady from South Africa! Definitely worth a visit!
Last stop was Dysart Harbour – again, used as an Outlander location. Dysart is another historic wee village well worth a wander about – with some nice coastal walks. Fife is definitely worth another visit, so lots more exploring to do next year!
